As of 16 November 2019, changes to the definition of regional Australia under Australian migration laws resulted in Perth being classified as a major regional centre. This regional classification means that there are now more visa types with lower requirements available to prospective visa applicants seeking to migrate to Western Australia.
Western Australia is also an economically attractive migration destination as it has been the only Australian state to deliver a budget surplus in the difficult time of the 2019/20 financial year on the strength of its mining and natural gas industries.
Additionally, for the 2020/21 financial year, the Australian Government intends to allocate 13,500 places under its Business Innovation and Investment Program and 15,000 places under its Global Talent Independent Program and has committed to prioritising applications under these programs. Eligible applicants will be able to migrate with their spouse and dependent children.
